I'm just an ordinary 50-something Aussie bloke, living in Sydney,

A little while ago I started to notice I was getting a bit creaky in my joints and a bit pudgy around my middle. And the wife thought I was getting a bit cranky.

So I started to make some changes to get healthier and happier. And they have been working out pretty well.

So now I'm sharing what I've tried and what I've learned here on this blog, along with some links to reputable mens health info.

You won't find any BS woo woo stuff here. I'm an engineer and I'm all about the scientific evidence. And getting good quality information from people with real, legit qualifications.

The more I learn about health and nutrition, the more I realise that it's the simple stuff that makes a big difference. And making small changes work better in the long term.

I'm not into Paleo or keto and I don't put butter in my coffee. I like to stick with the research, so I lean towards the DASH and MIND Diets, but...

I basically follow a Mediterranean Diet. Or as I like to call it "Healthy Wog Food".

I'm Italian and the Mediterranean Diet is basically the food I grew up eating.

And unlike a lot of other "diets" out there, the Mediterranean diet has been subjected to thousands of peer-reviewed scientific papers, and has shown many health benefits for our brain, heart, cancer risk and longevity.

And best of all, it's not actually a diet-diet - there is no calorie counting or going hungry. You just eat healthy amounts of real food.

I've discovered that I actually enjoy cooking, so long as it's easy to make and tastes good. I'm not good at following along with recipes. I much prefer to make things up as I go along. If something I make turns out well I'll write it down and put it in the Recipes section of this blog.

And in case you're wondering why I started this blog....

My wife has her own blog (you can check it out here). Look, it's a great blog, lots of good info on there, but it's more geared towards women and it's all a bit too girly for my liking.

I've been looking around for a good blog for over-50's Aussie blokes like me. One that has sensible health info. No pink hearts.

When I couldn't find anything I decided to give this blogging caper a go.

Drop me a line if there is anything you want me to write about.

IMPORTANT: I'm not a doctor or nutritionist so if anything you find here contradicts advice you have received from a properly qualified professional, then for f*cks sake don't listen to me over them. Your health is way to important to trust to some nob on the internet, m'kay?
